Montage of Attractions: Art, Memory, and Grief with Matthew Browne

Join artist Matthew Browne for an intimate discussion on Montage of Attractions, a deeply personal series exploring grief, memory, and the power of abstraction. Inspired by filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein’s theory of “attractions,” Browne’s work transforms cinematic principles into a visual language of emotion and reflection.

Created in tribute to his late father, the series consists of 92 abstract paintings—one for each year of his life—offering a layered meditation on time, loss, and love. In this talk, Browne will share insights into his creative process, the role of art in navigating grief, and how the sequencing of images can evoke emotion in a way that transcends traditional narrative.

This session is a must-attend for artists, designers, and anyone interested in the intersection of art and emotion. Witness how personal experience can be translated into universal meaning, and explore how abstraction can capture the essence of human connection.
